A treat is in the offing for Carnatic music lovers as the city is to amalgamate more than fifteen Carnatic music composers-cum-singers as part of Vaggeyakarara’s Day celebration to be held at Jaganmohan Palace on July 18 at 4 pm. More than ten musical works of Jayachamaraja Wadiyar will be recited on the occasion of birth anniversary of Jayachamaraja Wodeyar.
Vidushi Jyothsna Vivek and team from Bengaluru, Vidushi G S Rajalakshmi, Dr Veena and team from Mysuru, Tejas Manjunath, Pranav Manjunath will present a musical concert. Besides, Karnataka Kalashri V Nanjundaswamy will deliver seminar on Vaggeyakarara.
“Cultural city of Mysuru which is known for Carnatic musicians-cum-singers (Vaggeyakarara), all highly admired during the period of Maharajas of Mysuru. Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had made 94 musical works with his own composition. Unfortunately, the Vageyakara’s are ignored in the modern days where Carnatic music forms are ignored. Thus we are making an attempt of identifying Vageyakaras and promoting the rare form of Carnatic music,” said, Dr Sukanya Prabhakar, Convener of Karnataka Music and Dance Academy.
The cultural patron Maharani Pramodadevi Wadiyar will be inaugurating the event organised by the Karnataka Music and Dance Academy. The inaugural event will be presided by Gangamma Keshavamurthy, President of Karnataka Music and Dance Academy, Bengaluru and KGH Music University Vice Chancellor Dr Sarvamangala Shankar will be the chief guest. Academy Registrar Banashankari Angadi, Convener Dr Sukanya Prabhakar will be present.
