Artistes showcased Kolata, Puja Kunitha, Kamsale and Nandi Kambha during the procession
A colourful procession carrying a portrait of Maharshi Valmiki marked the Valmiki Jayanti celebrations in the city on Saturday.
The celebrations were organised by the district administration in association with other organisations.
The procession was inaugurated by MLA G T Devegowda along with Mayor B L Bhyrappa. Deputy Mayor Vanitha Prasanna, M P Pratap Simha, MLA M K Somashekar, MLC Marithibbegowda and others offered floral tributes.
A large number of people took part in the celebrations while a number of cultural troupes showcased Kolata, Puja Kunitha, Kamsale and Nandi Kambha during the procession that passed via KR Circle, D Devaraj Urs Road, Field Marshal KM Cariappa Circle and Vinoba Road. MLA G T Dewegowda also accompanied the artists and danced to the beats. It started at the Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple in front of the palace, passed through the main roads of the city, and culminated at Kalamandira, the venue of the function.
Meanwhile, Valmiki Jayanti celebration was held at BJP and JD(S) party offices and various organisations to commemorate the birth anniversary of Valmiki, the sage who wrote the great Indian epic Ramayana.
