Valmiki Nayaka community demands 7.5% reservation for ST

Mysuru, June 20:- Valmiki Nayaka community members staged protest in front of the office of the District In- charge Minister near Jaladarshini Guest House here on Thursday, demanding 7.5% reservation for Scheduled Tribe (ST).

The community members supported the march being undertaken by Prasannanadapuri seer from Rajanahalli peetha at Harihara in Davanagere district to Vidhana Soudha from June 6 seeking 7.5% reservation for ST community. They alleged that the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and officials of Social Welfare Department have not even met the seer for courtesy though he has been walking since 11 days. They warned of teaching a lesson to the government the way they did in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The members submitted a memorandum to Minister GT Devegowda, MP Pratap Simha and MLA L Nagendra urging them to increase the reservation to 7.5 per cent.

Paduvarahalli Ramakrishna, Devappa Nayaka, Market Raju, Shivaprakash, Rangaswamy, Prakash Hebbal, Yogesh, Puttaraju and others were present. (KS, NGB)
