Valmiki’s contribution to the world is unparalleled: Minister ST Somashekar

Sri Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti was observed at Kalamandir in Mysuru on Saturday

Mysuru, October 31:- District in-charge Minister S T Somashekar has greeted the people of Mysuru on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti and ‘Ekata Diwas.’ In his message sent on Saturday (October 31), Somashekar said, “Valmiki’s contribution to the world is immense. The epic ‘Ramayana’ written by him has a lot of moral stories for us. It is a guiding force for all of us. The epic is not confined to any one region but to the entire world.”

The minister said, “To introduce a great and exceptional character like Rama to the world is no ordinary job. To write about Rama, Valmiki must have been an exceptional person with great values and characters. We are privileged to talk about great people like Valmiki and others. Even small lessons in Ramayana have the essence of life.”

The minister added, “Unfortunately, people from the Valmiki community have not got what they deserve. There is a need for them to come up in politics and education. In fact, people of all the communities have to improve in all the sections in their own interest. As a mark of tribute for Valmiki, the state government is celebrating his Jayanti.”

Speaking on former deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Somashekar said, “He was known as “Iron Man” of India for uniting the entire country. On ‘Ekata Diwas,’ it is essential to recall his contributions to the country.”

Meanwhile, Sri Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti was observed at Kalamandir on Vinoba Road here on Saturday under the auspices of various organisations of the district administration.

MLAs G T Devegowda, L Nagendra, Deputy Mayor C Sridhar, Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) chairman H V Rajeev, Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer D Bharathi offered floral tributes to Valmiki’s portrait on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti. (MR/GK)
