Mysuru, June 26:- Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials, who have finally put the safety of school-going children in front, took the drivers of autorickshaw and vans to task in the city on Wednesday.
The RTO officials are asking vehicles carrying students to schools to follow the Supreme Court guidelines. The officials are checking the vehicle documents every day and are penalising the vehicles violating the rules.
The vehicle drivers stopped their service for a day on Wednesday and held a meeting at Oval Grounds near the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office to explain their
problems to the Commissioner of Police, K T Balakrishna.
President of the Auto Drivers’ Association, Lakshmi Narayan said that according to the Supreme Court verdict, only 6 students can travel in auto and 8 in a van. He said that the drivers can’t survive if this rule comes into force and said they would request the police commissioner to permit eight students in auto and 10 in a van. (MR/KS)
