Mysuru, January 30:- “Universities should take up the initiative to highlight the works of Tyagaraja more,” said renowned Carnatic classical musician, Dr Sukanya Prabhakar.
She was speaking at Tyagaraja Aradhana and memorial of Kanakadasa and Purandara Dasa at Karnataka State Gangubai Hanagal University of Music and Performing Arts University in the city on Tuesday.
“Tyagaraja, Kanakadasa and Purandara Dasa are like oceans. One life is not enough to study the works of even one of the three. It is the challenge in front of the students to analyse and understand the works of these greats. Purandara Dasa was a guide for Tyagaraja. Though there are many study materials on them, a framed study should be held and universities have to take up the initiative,” she said.
Renowned violinist Dr Mysuru Manjunath, Karnataka State Gangubai Hanagal University of Music and Performing Arts University Vice Chancellor Dr Sarvamangala Shankar, Registrar Prof Niranjan Vanalli and others were present. (MR/KS).
