Veena duet by Jeyaraaj and Jaysri on March 2

Mysuru, February 27:- Ganabharathi has organised a veena duet by Vidwan J T Jeyaraaj Krishnan and Jaysri Jeyaraaj Krishnan on March 2 at 6 pm in memory of Veena maestro Ganaklabhushana M J Srinivasa Iyengar at Veene Sheshanna Bhavana in the city.

Vidwan Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma on mridangam and Vid G S Ramanujam on the ghatam will accompany the duet.

About Jeyaraaj and Jaysri

J T Jeyaraaj Krishnan and Jaysri Jeyaraaj Krishnan are amongst the leading veena players in the Carnatic tradition.

Based in Chennai, they have dedicated themselves towards preserving and propagating the “Gayaki” style of playing the Veena.  ‘A’ graded veena artistes of AIR Chennai, this couple has regaled audiences in India and abroad.

Jeyaraaj and Jaysri belong to the direct Shishya Parampara of Nadajyoti Sri Muthuswamy Dikshitar – who is one of the trinity of Carnatic music.

Jeyaraaj and Jaysri, both born and brought up in Kolkata, started their intensive training in vocal and veena at a very tender age under the tutelage of Vainika Vidwan late A Anantharama Iyer and his sister late A Champakavalli who continued the Dikshitar Parampara, which they imbibed from their father Brahmasri Ananthakrishna Iyer, a direct disciple of Ambi Dikshitar, the great-grand nephew of Muthuswamy Dikshitar.

They have received many awards and titles. Bharathi Kala Praveena,  Bharati Pani Selvar, Nadakala Vipanchee,  H R Padmanabha Sastry Award for Arts, Emani Sankara Sastry Award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Veena Dhanammal prize from Music Academy, Chennai and many more.

Jeyaraaj and Jaysri apart from the famed December music season in Chennai, have been featured in prestigious festivals around the country. They have also performed in USA, UAE and Australia.

The couple has started an organisation called “Veenavaadhini,” with multifarious objectives, namely, teaching keen students the art of veena playing; conducting chamber concerts to provide an accessible platform for musicians.

The latest feather in their cap is the launch of a one of its kind Mobile App called VeenaJJ, which is currently available at the google play store and will showcase 1000 compositions and 100 ragas played by them on the veena. –(KK)
