In a major breakthrough, the city police have arrested two state-level vehicle thieves and have solved more than 30 cases of vehicle thefts across the city and surrounding areas. The arrests have been made by Saraswathipuram Inspector K C Poovaiah and Nazarbad Inspector M L Shekar under the direction from City Police Commissioner B Dayananda.

The arrested have been identified as 32-year-old Suresh and 35-year-old Mujahid Ahmed. According to the police, Suresh was a resident of Siddiquinagar under Mandi Mohalla police limits. He used to work as a delivery boy for a company that supplies medicines to hospitals and medical outlets.

Suresh did not know how to ride a geared vehicle and specialised in unlocking and stealing gear-less vehicles including scooters and light motor vehicles. He was spotted by constables Kantharaju and Ramu when he was moving suspiciously near the ring road. The police had beefed up day and night patrolling following a series of chain snatching incidents in the city.

When the constables questioned Suresh, he was unable to give convincing answers. He was brought along his vehicle to the police station. The police then recovered a driving licence that was inside the dashboard that belonged to a person whose vehicle was stolen. They then grilled Suresh who told the police that he was involved in more than 15 vehicle theft cases.

While 6 two-wheelers have been recovered from his possession, he revealed that he had sold more vehicles in Bengaluru, Mandya and Tumakuru. A police team has gone to the places to recover vehicles.

The Nazarbad police have arrested Mujahid Ahmed when he was pushing a Hero Honda vehicle on the Bannur Road. He was spotted by constables Srinivas and Madhukar. Mujahid is the resident of Sathyanagar and used to target vehicles parked in front of malls and shopping complexes.

Once he stole a vehicle, he used to sell them to vehicle dealers and workshops saying that he needed money urgently. He has told the police that he has stolen over 15 vehicles and have sold it outside the district too.
