Prime News, Nation, New Delhi, July 24:- Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Monday accused NDA Vice-presidential nominee Venkaiah Naidu of alleged land grabbing which was meant for poor people.
Closely on the heels of Shiv Sena an ally in Maharashtra has questioned the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Vice- presidential nominee Gopal Krishna Gandhi’s effort to save terror convict Yakub Memon from gallows, the latest accusation on Venkaiah Nadu clearly indicate where the Vice President race going.
Releasing four questions to Naidu, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh who also hails from the state of Andhra said those holding the highest public offices “must fully disclose” their interests as also “special treatment in shape of State largesse for themselves as well as kin and kith”.
In a statement released by the Congress, Ramesh asked whether it was a fact that Naidu, who was then BJP president, was accused of grabbing 4.95 acres of land in Andhra Pradesh reserved for the poor.
Congress leader said that and sought clarification from Naidu said that”Is it not a fact that on August 17, 2002, Naidu was forced to return this 4.o5 acre of land after public embarrassment and accusations of wrong doing?” according to the leaders statement.
Naidu’ children were also on the firing line by congress leader that the Telangana government decision to grant a Rs 271 crore contract in July 2014 to Naidu’s son and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao’s son to purchase vehicles from their companies.
According to reports, Jairam Ramesh asked “Is it not a fact that vehicle purchasing order was placed in flouting of all rules and without even floating tenders?” he said.
The Swarna Bharat Trust run by Naidu’s daughter was also on the firing line as Congress accused him of getting charges of over Rs two crore waived off by Telangana government. “Is it not a fact that such an exemption has no precedent and it has been done because his daughter is the Managing Trustee of this organisation?”
Jairam raised the question on Madhya Pradesh government decision to quashing of allotment of 20 acres to Kushabhau Thakre Memorial Trust in Madhya Pradesh in 2004
Jairam further stating questioned the Naidu of his and kin’s wrongdoings that “Is it not a fact that Supreme Court quashed this allotment on6 April 2011 in a PIL and passed stringent strictures of political favouritism and cancelled the allotment?” he said.
