Mysuru, August 30:- Vidhyaashram First Grade College, Jayalakshmipuram, here emerged champions in the district-level hockey tournament held in memory of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and veteran journalist Rajashekar Koti at Chamundi Vihara Sports Stadium at Nazarbad here on Wednesday.
The tournament was organised in association with Youth Empowerment and Sports Department to mark National Sports Day. In what turned out to be an easy outing, Vidhyaashram FGC beat SJCE team 3-1 in the final.
Varuna Ganapathy (29th, 37th) and Lehar Thimmaiah (44th) scored for the winners, while Suresh (50th) pulled one back for SJCE.
In the match held for the 3rd place, St Joseph’s College team defeated Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering 4-0. In the high school section, Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya team emerged as champions. They won against Kendriya Vidyalaya 4-0.
MLA S A Ramadas distributed prizes to the winning teams. Editor of Andolana newspaper, Ravi Koti, Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Department K Suresh, President of National Sports Day Committee N Krishnegowda, Vice-President N Aradhya, Dr Pulakesh, Founder-Chairman of Vidhyaashram FGC K Rakesh Raje Urs, Vidhyaashram FGC Principal Khushi and others were present.
