Vokkaliga leaders condemn DKS’ arrest, demand his early release

Prime News, National, Karnataka, Mysuru, September 9: The arrest of former minister and Congress troubleshooter D K Shivakumar by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is witnessing widespread protests across the state and it is more so in the Vokkaliga belt as he is from the same community. Demanding early release of Shivakumar, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar Vokkaliga leaders staged a protest rally on Monday demanding his early release.

Participating in the rally, Congress leader Dr Ravindra said the law is being misused to trouble the opposition leaders. “No other party at the Centre had managed to abuse the power to this extent. Clearly, there is a political motive behind this. In fact, Shivakumar was not allowed to perform rituals for his father. And, the BJP is talking of Hindutva. Even though there are corrupt leaders in BJP, none of them has been arrested by the ED. Despite meeting the ED officials for interrogation, Shivakumar has been taken into custody for no valid reason. Home minister Amit Shah also went to jail for a criminal offence.  Without considering Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s age, Shah is ill-treating him. This is the beginning of the downfall of the Bharatiya Janata Party.”

The rally began at Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple near Jayamarthanda Gate of Mysuru Palace and culminated at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office after going through the major streets of the city. Many BJP, Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) leaders were present on the occasion.

Former Minister Sa Ra Mahesh, former MLA MK Somashekar, Congress leader C H Vijayashankar, Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) women’s wing president Dr Pushpa B Amarnath and more than 500 prominent Vokkaliga leaders were present. (MR/KS)
