Prime News, Karnataka, Bengaluru, August 9:- The agitating farmers can heave a sigh of relief as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday categorically announced that water will be released from tomorrow (Thursday) to the canals from Krishna Raja Sagar, Kabini, Hemavathi and Harangi reservoirs to help farmers raise the crops as the rainfall during this monsoon has been scanty.
He was speaking at the special meeting held here to discuss the Cauvery water. The chief minister’s decision to release water comes in the wake of ongoing agitations since several days by farmers who have been demanding immediate release of water to the canals.
The state is giving top priority to drinking water needs of people and cattle and hence, more water cannot be released to Tamil Nadu as the drought situation is acute in the Cauvery belt, Said Siddaramaiah. Farmers should use water judiciously, the chief minister added.
Water Resources Minister M B Patil, Member of Parliament C S Puttaraju, Pandavapura MLA Puttanaiah, Srirangapattana MLA Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda and other farmers’ leaders of Cauvery basin were present at the meeting.
