We are holding padayatra in support of Mekedatu project: Siddaramaiah

Prime News, Karnataka, Water, Mysuru, November 9:- Congress is all for the fast implementation of Mekedatu works and not otherwise, averred senior party leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here on Tuesday (November 9).

He was talking to the media after Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai questioned Congress’ proposed padayatra in support of the Mekedatu project.

He said, “Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Mekedatu was done during the Congress regime. The project was sent to the Centre long back but clearance has not come. Even the court is okay with it. But Tamil Nadu is questioning the issue unnecessarily.”

Siddaramaiah said, “It is more than two years since the BJP government came to power. We are holding padayatra for the fast implementation of the project. Bommai feels we are adopting pressure tactics. Unless we put pressure on them, they won’t do anything.”

Congress leader said, “Forget what we are saying, they can start the work on their own. I can’t understand why they are delaying the work? The apex court has also not said anything against the project. If Tamil Nadu is objecting to it, it has no legal standing.”

On sharing dais with Janata Dal (Secular) MLA G T Devegowda, Siddaramaiah said, “Is there any rule that I should not be with another party leader during a programme? There is no significance as such.”

On the bitcoin row, he said, “I don’t know why they are dragging us into this issue? They can ask a central agency to probe the issue to punish the guilty. One person has been charge-sheeted in this regard. Let the truth come out after proper investigation.”

District Congress president Dr B J Vijay Kumar and others were present. (MR/KS)
