Mysuru, April 16:- “A people’s movement is the only solution to save and conserve water,” said B Shivashankar, managing director of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd.
He was speaking at a water awareness programme organised by University of Mysore, National Service Scheme (NSS) for officials and engineers in the city on Monday. He inaugurated the programme by filling water into a pot.
“We have not come across Cauvery water flowing to its full capacity in recent years. We have to be aware of the scarcity of water or else farmers will not be able to grow any crop and they will have a hard time. There was a big lake at Periyapattana which is now completely dried up. If the water is not saved, then our situation will worsen in the days ahead. After the Karnataka Assembly elections, we will organise water awareness programmes,” he added.
UoM College Development Council director S Srikantaswamy, Goruru dam chief engineer H L Prasanna, M Shivakumar, U N Ravi Kumar and others were present. (GK, NGB)
