Mysuru, October 2:- Mahatma Gandhi’s followed the path of ahimsa (non-violence) to get us independence, said Mysuru Urban Development (MUDA) chairman H V Rajeev on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti at his office here on Friday (October 2).
Speaking after offering floral tributes to the portrait of Gandhi, Rajeev said, “We need to think of him in the present context. We did not have freedom, language and border in the pre-independence days. He took everyone on the path of non-violence for freedom.”
He added, “Are we going in the right direction now? What Gandhi dreamt was different. We need to introspect what we are doing now. There was no selfish motive in Gandhi’s moves. There were differences on how to achieve freedom. Many leaders favoured arm struggle but Gandhi convinced them to change their opinion.”
He said, “We need to accept Gandhi’s principles and ideologies to be successful in life.”
MUDA officials and staff were present on the occasion. (MR/KS)
