We need to strengthen poor to end poverty: PM Modi

Prime News, National, Housing, New Delhi/Bhopal, September 12:- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (September 12) called for strengthening the poor in order to remove poverty.

He said the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is aimed at empowering the poor. Modi was speaking at the virtual housewarming ceremony of 1.75 houses built in rural parts of Madhya Pradesh under the PMAY.

“To remove poverty, we have to strengthen the poor and this scheme is aimed at empowering them only,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that PMAY is not just about providing housing, but also about instilling confidence in the poor so that they are free of daily struggles and they can focus towards building a better future and can sleep peacefully.

Describing PMAY-Gramin as a fine example of converting crisis into opportunity, Modi informed that despite various challenges due to COVID-19, construction of 18 lakh houses have been completed in the nation.

Elaborating on the contribution of the skilled manpower, the Prime Minister said that the speedy construction of houses has been made possible due to the contribution of our labour brethren who returned from cities and took benefit of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojana to build homes for poor people. He also interacted with some of the beneficiaries of the project. (Inputs: Agencies, NGB)
