Mysuru, July 3:- GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women, Mysuru, IEEE Student Branch and IEEE WIE Affinity Group in association with IEEE Bangalore Section and IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS) Society Bangalore chapter, successfully organised webinar on “IEEE projects on emerging technologies” by Dr Lance Chun Che Fung, Emeritus Professor, Murdoch University, Australia, Chair, IEEE R10 Educational Activities Committee, Past Chair, IEEE New Initiatives Committee.
The session commenced by welcoming the panel members, resource persons and participants by Dr Parameshachari B D, professor and head, GSSSIETW, IEEE student branch counsellor and convener of this webinar series.
Dr Fung highlighted IEEE which is the world’s largest technical professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. One of the organisational units in IEEE is ‘Women in Engineering’ (WIE). The goal of IEEE WIE is to facilitate the recruitment and retention of women in technical disciplines globally. It aims to establish a network of IEEE members and volunteers dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists, and inspiring girls around the world to follow their academic interests in a career in engineering and science.
Initially, Dr Fung discussed the percentage of IEEE membership across the country and board of directors. He explained the role of members in each board, activities conducted under each board, how to form a committee, sections, subsections, chapter, affinity groups, student branches.
Professor Fung gave an overview of IEEE and WIE and the benefits of being an IEEE member. He also highlighted the projects supported by the IEEE New Initiatives Committee (NIC) and the Future Directions Committee (FDC) which has brought significant impact and implications to the industry and general public. He discussed in detail the top 10 strategic technology trends for the year 2020 and the opportunities, challenges in each technology.
He also emphasised various growth stage models such as PIAGET’S stages of cognitive, Nolan’s stages growth models, Gallier’s stages of growth mode and maturity models.
Dr Shivakumar gave the concluding remarks for this webinar. He also congratulated Dr Parameshachari for organising this informative webinar series.
