Why caste discrimination for drinking water? asks ZP member Achyuth

Mysuru, January 17:- Member of Zilla Panchayat Achyuth has seriously questioned the caste differences made in providing drinking water.

He was speaking at the general meeting at Zilla Panchayat Hall convened by ZP president Parimala Shyam on Friday.

He alleged that under the SCPTP grant dedicated to the SC/ST, they should be provided with a pure drinking water unit. But Dalits are deprived of this stating if pure drinking water unit is provided to them, other communities won’t use that water. “This discrimination has taken place at many villages coming under Hebbal Zilla Panchayat limits in KR Nagar. The criminal case must be registered against the officials behind this,” he demanded.

He questioned how can someone allocate grants the way they want for the sake of votes.

ZP members Mangala Somashekar and Dr Pushpa B Amarnath supported Achyuth’s question. Mangala Somashekar also pointed out that half of the RO plants are not in working condition. Earlier, the general meeting of the Zilla Panchayat was postponed for one-and-a-half hours due to lack of quorum.

Out of 49 Zilla Panchayat members, only 30 members appeared in the ZP premises. ZP president Parimala Shyam after arriving at the meeting, head-counted the members. The meeting was started after 38 members of the quorum were in attendance. (MR/KS)
