Prime Sports, International (New Delhi), January 9:- India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is the next guest on India Today Inspiration, has revealed that he is looking forward to taking up the role of a finisher during the T20 World Cup, which will be held in October-November in Australia this year. Pandya has been off the field since September 2019 but is expected to make a comeback soon as he has been named in India A squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
India Today Consulting Editor, Sports, Boria Majumdar asked Pandya whether he had thought about playing the role of the finisher in case the legendary MS Dhoni is not part of the Indian team for the World Cup. In reply, Pandya expressed his admiration for the former captain by admitting that he is looking forward to that challenge while knowing that he “will never be able to fill MS’ shoes”.
“I’ll never be able to fill MS’ shoes, so I don’t even think that way. I’m quite excited for the challenge to be honest. Whatever I do, it will be always for the team you know. It will be one step at the ladder and slowly-slowly that Cup will be there!” Pandya told Majumdar.
Like Pandya, Dhoni has also been missing in action on the cricket field albeit due to a self-imposed sabbatical since the 2019 World Cup. While there is no confirmation on when and whether Dhoni will return to the national side, India have been backing Rishabh Pant in his senior’s absence. (MR, Inputs: Agencies).
