Mysuru, December 10:- Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh on Saturday held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar and officials of Sri Rama Sugar factory at Chunchanakatte about reopening it.
“We are planning to give the factory on lease for 40 years. A proposal will be given to the state government. A tender has to be called within one month. Most of the government-owned sugar factories are at loss. It has made us think of giving it to private parties through tender. Around 655 villages depend on this sugar factory which is capable of producing thousand 1250 tons of sugar. People share a great bond with this factory,” the minister said after the meeting.
“Around 215 employees of the factory are already retired. Out of the remaining payment for the employees, the state government will foot 50%. We will take steps to pay Rs 3.5 crore salary amount,” he added. (MR/KS)
