Mysuru, February 2:- In support of their various demands, the District Wine Merchants’ Association of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar staged a protest here on Tuesday (February 2).
The protesters, who had gathered near the Deputy Commissioner’s office here, said “Our association was formed in 2000 to set right some of the pending issues. Of the many problems, only a few of them have been solved. After the ban on arrack, the state government has been targeting only the liquor sector. Though we had no business for three to four months during the pandemic-induced lockdown, we were forced to pay up the annual fee. Despite repeated pleas, the state government has kept mum.”
The protesters asked the state government to shelve the plan to sell liquor online.
President of the association S Guruswamy, vice president R Chennakeshava, Paramesh, Narayanappa, Lakshman R, Srinivas N Nagaraju, S Ningaraju and others were present during the protest. (MR/KS)
