Mysuru, March 8:- “Women from unorganised sectors, who are working for the welfare of the society, should be identified and honoured,” said Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath.
She was speaking after distributing ‘Mahila Kahale – Ditta Mahileyaru’ award to several women on the occasion of International Women’s Day and 9th memorial day of K Kamalamma at Mysuru Press Club on Friday.
“Women are on par with men in all the fields. They should be given education and equal opportunities,” she said.
“Women who used to be confined to the four walls earlier have now come to the mainstream and are achieving great things. They should get more and more opportunities,” said the president of District Brahmins’ Association, D T Prakash.
Writer Latha Mohan, nurse P U Manjula, postwoman Kavitha, head constable Nirmala, journalist Rekha Prakash, mid-day meals worker Yashoda, pourakarmika woman Papamma, Ningamma, bus conductor Gangamma and auto-rickshaw driver Veena were felicitated.
Vice president of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Mysuru branch Dr Sujatha S Rao, director of the city cooperative bank Dr S Nagarathna, former corporator Dr M K Ashok and others were present. (MR/KMR).
