Mysuru, August 24:- Varamahalakshmi festival is an auspicious festival for Hindus. It is an occasion to offer special puja to the Goddess of wealth – Lakshmi – for a better future.
After weeks of heavy rains, there was a brief lull even as the city heaved a sigh of relief to rejoice the festive mood. Varamahalakshmi festival was observed with religious fervour in the city on Friday.
Women were seen cleaning up the houses and drawing rangolis in front of their houses early in the morning. The idol of Lakshmi was lit up brightly and the Goddess was welcomed with bhajans and sweets. Special foods were prepared at homes to mark the occasion. In the evening, families visited their near and dear ones to exchange pleasantries.
The festival is observed on 2nd Friday of Shukla Paksha of the Hindu month Shravana. The belief is that by worshipping the goddess, families become prosperous, according to Hindu epics. (MR/SH).
