Women should be united to join mainstream: Umashree

Mysuru, September 21:- “In a world that is full of challenges, women cooperative organisations, self help groups and women at individual levels should work together to achieve equality in the society,” said Minister for Women and Child Welfare Department, Umashree here on Thursday.

She was speaking after inaugurating the women’s Dasara at J K grounds.

“Women are deprived of equality in the society. They are confined to four walls of the house and they have not thought of achieving individual freedom,” she said.

“Thinking of women has to be changed. They should be physically and mentally strong. They should involve themselves in Yoga and meditation. Women’s organisations established during the regime of S M Krishna have contributed to the development of women. They have to actively take part in grama sabhas, leaving behind shyness. Rs 302 crore has been dedicated for organisation of women. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate Matru Poorna programme on October 2,” Umashree added.

She visited the stalls after inaugurating the exhibition. President of women and children’s Dasara sub-committee, Latha Mohan, vice president Rani Prabha, Sushila Marigowda, Bharati Shankar and others were present. (MR/KMR).
