Women should overcome oppression: ZP president Parimala Shyam

Mysuru, March 6:- “Women should overcome oppression in the society and stand on their own,” said the president of Zilla Panchayat Parimala Shyam.

She was speaking after inaugurating Women’s cultural event at Kalamandir here organised by Kannada and Culture Department on Wednesday.

“Women are active in all fields. There is no field where women have not marked their presence. But still, there is harassment on women which must be stopped. Role of women is important in families. A family can’t sustain without women. They should be respected,” she added.

“Women should be given the rights on par with men. There is a demand for 50% reservation for them. Many women have served as chief ministers and prime minister in India. Even the Defence Minister of India is a woman. Women organisations should also be more active,” said Chamaraja Constituency MLA L Nagendra.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Anuradha, Zilla Panchayat CEO K Jyothi, Vasanth Krishna, and others were present.

Drawing exhibition, handicraft exhibition, rangoli competition were held. A procession was also held ahead of the programme. (MR/GK).
