District In-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa and Mayor B L Bhyrappa visited Freedom Fighters Park on Tuesday where the government has planned to build Gandhi Bhavan.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced that Gandhi Bhavans would be constructed in all the 30 districts during Gandhi Jayanti programme. As part of this initiative to build Gandhi Bhavan in the city, Mahadevappa visited the Subbrayanakere, Freedom Fighters Park to see location where the proposed structure will come up. As part of the government’s initiative, Gandhi Bhavan will be constructed on 40,000 sqft area and will have a collection of books based on freedom fighters and thus help in creating awareness on Mahatma Gandhi’s principles and his lifestyle.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor B L Bhyrappa said, “The government has sanctioned Rs 3 crore for the project and the work is expected to commence next month. The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) will submit the proposed plans to the Mysuru Urban development authority (MUDA) and they would be forwarding it to the state government for its scrutiny.”
Members of the Freedom Fighters Association requested the minister and mayor to name the proposed building as ‘Swathantra Yodhara Bhavana’ instead of Gandhi Bhavan.
