Work on Vishnu Memorial will begin soon, says CM Yediyurappa

At a virtual programme, BSY lays foundation stone for the proposed project

Mysuru, September 15:- After nearly 11 years since legendary Kannada actor Vishnuvardhan’s death in December 2009, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, at a virtual programme, laid the foundation stone for Dr Vishnuvardhan’s Memorial at Halalu near Udburu on H D Kote Road here on Tuesday (September 15).

Speaking on the occasion, Yediyurappa said, “He was one of the greatest actors that the Kannada filmland has produced. He was also a man of principles and will remain a role model for the younger generation.”

The chief minister said, “Vishnuvardhan was loved by all for his simplicity and discipline. Dr Rajkumar and Vishnuvardhan were like two pillars of the Sandalwood when they were alive. Beginning his career in Puttanna Kanagal’s ‘Nagarahavu’ in 1972, Vishnuvardhan acted in hundreds of good movies and carved a niche. Right from ‘Nagarahavu’ to ‘Aptha Rakshaka’ (his last movie), Vishnuvardhan’s achievements are exemplary. He also had a lot of social concern and time and again, he exhibited humanity. His wife veteran Kannada actor Bharathi and son-in-law Anirudh are also well-known actors. His memorial has been delayed considerably but we will try to construct it as early as possible. That the memorial is coming up in Mysuru is something special.”

Yediyurappa added, “The work on the 5-acre land will begin soon and the Police Housing Board has been entrusted with the responsibility. Of the Rs 11 crore sanctioned for the project, Rs 5 crore has been released. We are all committed to build a good memorial which will be a great tribute to a great actor.”

Bharathi said, “ September 15 is a special day. The 10-year-long wait has come to an end and the dream of Vishnuvardhan’s fans and supporters will be realised in the coming days. I sincerely thank one and all for your undying love for Vishnuvardhan.”

Janata Dal (Secular) MLA G T Devegowda said, “Vishnuvardhan’s name is synonymous with Mysuru. I am happy the memorial is taking shape, thanks to our chief minister.”

Krishnaraja Constituency MLA S A Ramadas, Mysuru Urban Development Authority chairman H V Rajeev, Deputy Commissioner B Sharath, actor Anirudh and his wife Keerthi Anirudh, and others were present on the occasion. (MR/GK)
