Workshop on current teaching trends held

Centre for Continuous Learning for Professional Excellence, JSS University (CCLPE), in association with Department of Public Health Dentistry, JSS Dental College and Hospital, had organised a workshop on “Current Trends in Teaching and Learning Methodologies” as part of Birth Centenary Celebrations of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamy recently.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by guests B Manjunath, Registrar, JSSU, Dr P A Kushalappa Director, Academics, JSSU, Dr Prashanth Vishwanath, Convener, CCLPE, JSSU, Dr Anil Kumar Gujjari, Principal, JSS Dental College and Hospital, Dr Dakshayini MR, Vice Principal, JSS Dental College and Hospital and Dr Chandrashekar BR, Organizing Chairman.

The dignitaries opined that using a variety of teaching methods and styles encourages adaptability and lifelong learning in teaching-learning process. Combining the quality of information from traditional methods with active learning holds promise as a progressive model that will suit a wide range of learning abilities.

Resource person Dr Komaladevi Sampath Damodar Professor, Department of Physiology, Convener Medical Education Unit, Vaidehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Bangalore and Dr Deepa Bhat Assistant Professor, Department of Anatomy JSSMC, JSSU delivered lecture on “Interactive Teaching – Learning Methods”.

Dr Sivaraman Ganesan, Assistant Professor, Department of ENT, JIPMER, Puducherry and Dr Sunil B Sangappa Associate Professor, Department of Prosthodontics & Crown and Bridge, JSS Dental College and Hospital, JSSU spoke on “Reflective approach in Teaching and Learning”. Dr Pushpalatha Murugesh Professor, Department of Anatomy JSSMC, JSSU and team presented on “MCQ Writing and Item Analysis”.
