Two-day workshop on ‘Electronic Systems Design Manufacturing (ESDM)’ organised by the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, National Institute of Engineering (NIE) was held recently.
Inaugurating the workshop Chairperson, CSI-BC Dr Bhanumathi shared her experience in avionics industry.
She spoke about the broad spectrum of avionics industry, problems faced in design of civil and military aircraft, challenges and some solutions. Design and development of civil and military aircrafts which involved use of both hardware and software tools, 3 D visualization etc.
She mentioned the Government of India’s initiatives to design and develop aircraft for military applications which were mission and flight critical. Based on the success of these efforts, Rs 7.5 crore were budgeted for civilian aircraft design and development. As a result, using massive mathematical modeling, simulation, failure analysis were carried out which in turn resulted in reduction of tool usage from 250 to 30, quicker design and better compatibility.
She urged the students to look into non-linear complex equations and linearize complexities using different algorithms as there was a good scope in the aviation industry.
The workshop was organised in association with Computer Society of India (CSI-BC) and Consortium of Electronics Industries of Karnataka and sponsored by Department of IT/BT.
The objective of the workshop was to deliberate and innovate on the issues pertaining to ESDM sector and explore opportunities in order to promote and assist the industry, so as to leverage in meeting the needs of the ESDM sector in the country.
Principal NIE Dr G L Shekar presided over the function. Professor & Head, Department of Electronics & Communication Dr Rohini Nagapadma, Controller of Examination Dr T Ananthapadmanabha, Manasi Varde and Jhahnavi Kulkarni, Dr Narasimhan and K Rajaram and others were present on the occasion.
