Workshop on ‘Testing and evaluation’ for collegiate teachers teaching Tamil begins

Mysuru, June 5:- Dr P R Dharmesh Fernandez, Professor-cum-Deputy  Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) and Head, Centre for Testing and Evaluation (CT&E) inaugurated the five-day training-cum-workshop on ‘Testing and evaluation and question item writing’ on Monday  for the assistant professors of Tamil working in universities and colleges in Tamil Nadu.

The workshop is organised by the National Testing Service-India (NTS-I) at CIIL, from June 4 to 8 in the city.

In his inaugural address, Dr Fernandez explained to the participants about the activities of the CIIL and its various schemes.

The benefits gained by the teachers during this programme should be implemented in all the classroom activities, he added.

Prof Fernandez said that  recruiting agencies and selection organisations can utilise the services of the outstanding participants of this programme as test developers and item writers.

Pankaj  Dwivedi,  officer  In-charge  of  NTS-I,  briefed  about  the  objectives  of  the  workshop. He expressed his happiness on seeing large group of teachers teaching Tamil, the oldest language in the world.

He assured the participants that NTS-I will facilitate in every possible manner to achieve their objectives. He further added that at NTS-I they can learn how to teach the language better and test the achievement of students more effectively and reliably.

Dr V Ilangovan and Dr R Shakunthala (academicians of NTS-I) were present.

Thirty seven assistant professors from various universities and government first grade colleges in Tamil Nadu who are engaged in teaching and research of Tamil are participating in this training workshop.
