World Alzheimer’s Month observed by ARDSI

World Alzheimer’s Month is observed in the month of September across the world to sensitise the public regarding AD. In connection with this,  ARDSI, Mysuru in association with Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy, Mysuru is organising various events for creating the awareness. The World Alzheimer’s Month was inaugurated by Swamy Yukteshananda, correspondent, Sri Ramakrishrra Vidyashala, Mysuru at Farrok Irani Hall, Rotary Club, JLB Road, Mysuru, on Saturday.

G T Devegowda, MLA, Chamundeshwari Constituency, Mysuru was the chief guest for the programme. H K Srinath, secretary and Dr G Parthasarathy, principal JSS College.of Pharmacy, Mysuru were the guests of honour. Dr Hanumanthachar Joshi, Principal, Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy and chairman, Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI), Mysuru Chapter presided over the function. Students, staff and others were present.

ARDSI, Mysuru Chapter was established in 2012 to cater the needs of AD patients and their caregivers.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia and accounts for 50-60% 0f all cases and is caused by abnormal brain tissue changes. For more than a decade, majority of the people with dementia worldwide have been living in developing regions of the world. They already account for over 60% of all cases. By 2040 this proportion is expected to rise to 71%.
