To commemorate world blood donor day- 2016 JSS University, JSS Medical College and Hospital, Department of Transfusion Medicine and JSS College of nursing jointly celebrated World blood donor day on Tuesday.
The event organised with the theme ‘Blood connects us all’ was inaugurated by Minister for Health and Family welfare U T Khader. Delivering the inaugural address, he said, “Though the science and technology have rapidly grown there is no substitute for human blood. However, people around us have many external differences, the same vital blood flows through our veins. Blood donation is the greatest donation of all and this is the best occasion to thank and honour the blood donors for their life-saving gift. People must voluntarily come forward and be ready for unpaid blood donation since this is a noble act. It’s our responsibility to bring awareness on blood donation and also substantially increase the number of safe and voluntary blood donations.”
“Programmes like this will raise awareness among the people and make people to donate blood on a regular basis, though in Mysuru, Bengaluru and other neighbouring regions there are no issues of unavailability of bloods but in Hyderabad-Karnataka region, there is lack of awareness among people for blood donation,” he said.
“We have initiated a new website `Jeeva Sanjeevini’ that enables searching for blood across all blood banks in the state that could facilitate people in need,” he added.
On the occasion, hundreds of students and public voluntarily donated blood at the blood donation camp organised at JSS Hospital premises. Three regular voluntary blood donors were felicitated on the occasion.
Mayor B L Bhyrappa, Principal of JSS Medical college Dr H Basavana Gowdappa, Director of JSS Hospital Dr M D Ravi, Medical superintendent of JSS Hospital Dr M Guruswamy and others were present.
