Indian Academy of Paediatrics in association with JSS Medical College has organised awareness programme on importance of Breast feeding at Department of Paediatrics, JSS Medical College from August 1.
August first week is observed as Breastfeeding Week and theme of this year is “Breastfeeding: Key to Sustainable Development”.
Indian Academy of Paediatrics Secretary Dr Rajendra Kumar said: “it seeks to emphasise breastfeeding as a key element in making us to think about how to value our well-being from the start of life. August first week is celebrated as World Breastfeeding Week, we have been observing this every year. Compared to last two decades, breastfeeding has improved exclusively by 35% to 57% in the state. During the week long programme, we approach women and inform them about exclusive breastfeeding.”
“Breastfeeding is a key to avoid malnutrition, epidemic diseases and diarrhoea and helps sustainable development. It is also proven that the IQ of a child which underwent exclusive breastfeeding for six month is high compared to other”, he added.
Commissioner MUDA, Dr M Mahesh will inaugurate the event.
