To mark the World Consumer Rights Day on Tuesday, the Mysuru Grahakara Parishat creates awareness on consumer rights and food adulteration at JSS Law College in Kuvempunagar. Volunteers of MGP and MSc students from St Philomena’s College demonstrated food adulteration methods indulged in by tradesmen. They created awareness on how to unravel adulteration in tea, pepper, ghee, butter, turmeric powder, junk foods and vegetables. To crosscheck the quality of commodity, the organisers gave simple tips such as: To check if the turmeric powder is pure, add a few drops hydrochloric acid to the powder. If it turns brown or purple it shows it is adulterated.
