Mysuru, June 22:- International Yoga Day was observed at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) on Friday. Renowned yoga exponent from the city, Yoga Rathna Prakash inaugurated the programme by performing yoga.
“Mysuru has contributed a lot to the growth of yoga. Rajarshi Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar learnt yoga from Tirumale Krishnamacharya. Pattabhi Jois, BKS Iyengar, Malladihalli Raghavendra Swamy have contributed immensely,” he said.
“Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and devotional practice of India. It is believed that yoga was introduced by Lord Shiva. It gives peace of mind and healthy life. In the era of modern technology, physical work is declining. Due to the lack of exercises, the human body is having a negative impact. We are living with a lot of mental stress. To keep your body and mind healthy, we have to practice yoga every day,” said the vice- chancellor of the KSOU, Prof S Vidyashankar.
Registrar of KSOU Prof B Ramesh, officials and staff were present. (MR/SH).
