Youth condemn Raichur judge for removing Ambedkar portrait

Prime News, National, Karnataka, Constitution, Democracy, Protest, Mysuru, January 29:- Chikkareddy Yuvakara Sangha from Ashokapuram on Friday (January 28) staged a protest near the Silk Factory Circle here, urging the authorities to dismiss the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Raichur, Mallikarjuna Gowda.

The protesters had gathered around forming a human chain holding torches and posters.
Naveen Kempi, president of Krishnaraja Yuvabalaga, said, “The state government has made it compulsory to place Dr B R Ambedkar’s portrait in every Republic Day event. But the Raichur district justice Mallikarjuna Gowda removing Dr Ambedkar’s portrait from the dais during the Republic Day programme is a very reprehensible action and he must be dismissed from his position.”
He also added, “It’s been 75 years since our country got Independence from oppression, but still the oppression on the Dalit community is seen across the country. Now disrespecting the architect of our Constitution, who worked for the welfare of people beyond caste system and religious boundaries is a shameful act.”
Mallikarjuna Gowda allegedly got the portrait of Dr Ambedkar removed before hoisting the national flag during the Republic Day programme at the premises of the district court on January 26.
