Youth Red Cross unit was formally launched at the Government First Grade College, Kuvempunagar in the city on Tuesday.
The programme was inaugurated by speaker of Indian Red Cross Society, Mysuru chapter, Dr Gurumurthy. Delivering the inaugural address, he said, “We, at the Red Cross, inspire, boost and initiate all forms of humanitarian activities to old and younger generation with an intention to minimise human suffering. The Red Cross units have been working constantly with many colleges and various initiatives have been taken to protect and respect human life and health.”
Later, executive committee member of the Indian Red Cross society, Dr Lakshmi said, “We focus on providing a caring environment to the needy and downtrodden. Our society has been responsible in creating humanitarian approach among the people irrespective of any gender, caste or religion. Henry Dunant played a pivotal role in forming the International Red Cross society after witnessing people suffering during the world war.”
Later, Deputy Speaker of Red Cross Society, Prof Mahadevappa gave a special lecture on the importance of first aid.
Principal of the college, Sowbhaghya M R, convenor of Youth Red Cross unit, Dr H P Geetha and others were present.
