ZP Standing Committee polls: Beerihundi Basavanna’s nomination rejected

Mysuru, June 30:- Pandemonium prevailed during the elections to the Zilla Panchayat Standing Committee members held at the office of the Regional Commissioner here on Tuesday (June 30).

ZP member Basavanna of JD(S) was engaged in a verbal spat with ZP chief executive officer (CEO) Prashanth Kumar Mishra over delay in filing nomination papers.

Basavanna submitted his nomination papers for the ZP Standing Committee members’ elections. However, he couldn’t submit the nomination on time and the ZP CEO rejected his nomination. Enraged over this, Basavanna the CEO were seen engaged in verbal spat which further delayed the election process. The CEO expressed his dissatisfaction over the behaviour of Basavanna and the ZP members intervened to broker peace.

The election for the ZP Standing Committee membership is being held for the third term. Mishra is the election officer. The ZP members of Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) are lobbying for the membership posts. (HN, KS/ NGB)
